Aroma Therapy

The definition of 'Aroma’ means a fragrance or a sweet smell and ‘therapy’ means a treatment designed to cure.  Aromatherapy is a treatment that uses plant oils within the massage, specifically blended to address certain problems or requirements.  It is a holistic treatment, the aim of which is to produce a physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental sense of wellbeing through the inhalation and massage of essential oils.  It's like when one takes a whiff of any spice in your kitchen or a bouquet of flowers that in essence is fundamental aromatherapy too. These oils are extracted from herbs, plants, and trees. They provide both healthy or damaged cells in our body with oxygen and nutrients and even protect and repair our DNA. Many people use aromatherapy to promote a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Research has shown that smell is the most acute of all our senses and has a powerful influence on our bodies and minds.  The scents omitted from essential oils are believed to activate olfactory nerve cells in the nasal cavity, which then passes impulses to the limbic system.  This is the area of the brain associated with emotions and memory.  Inhaling the appropriate fragrance can reduce stress, lift depression, hasten a good night's sleep, soothe your soul, or give you more energy. It is already helping office workers stay alert while doing repetitive mental tasks and even hospitals are experimenting with using aromatherapy to help patients relax so that other healing modalities can do their job. Massaging aromatic oils into your skin is another way to benefit from aromatherapy because essential oils, the compounds responsible for a plant's fragrance, offer a multitude of healing benefits in addition to their individual scents. Aromatherapy isn’t aiming to deal with the disease but rather to release the wellbeing, harmony and improved mental and physical health of the person. I may work differently from other aromatherapists, but as I’ve studied healing I prefer the client to choose the essential oils because, on a subconscious level, the body will know exactly what it needs.
